What’s Cooking: A Guide to Virtual Cooking Classes Across the State

Cooking together has always been a powerful way to connect and bring people together. While that may look a bit differently these days, the idea is still the same: breaking bread, sharing memories, and coming together. Through fostering that sense of community, here are a few virtual cooking classes across the state to engage with local chefs and mixologists all while social distancing and most importantly, having fun!

Sister Pie

This bright, big-hearted bakery on Detroit’s East Side has been baking up pie dough classes a few times a month since 2016.  Because of such an overwhelming response, they added hand pie classes in 2018. Although their in-person pie classes have paused, they are now offering virtual hour-long demos.  There are two options available: Virtual Demo: Sister Pie Happy Hour and Kids Virtual Demo: Pie Sandwich Cookies

Biblio Bistro

Partnering with the Portage Lake District Library in Houghton, Biblio Bistro (BB) is a fun and nutritious cooking series that centers seasonal produce in their step-by-step cooking demonstrations. Led by Chef Michael and Dietitian Meghan, BB strives to make healthy cooking educational and fun!  Shopping list and recipes are provided one week prior to each episode so that each participant can cook along with the chefs. Prior episodes include: Slow-Cooked Winter Squash and Warm Beet Salad

Cooking with Cocktails

Showcasing cuisines from around the world, Cooking with Cocktails (CwC) is an interactive virtual cooking class series that brings together both fun and educational cooking with fragrant and scintillating cocktails. Partnering with culinary professionals and mixologists such as: Chef Leah Harris of Victory Gem Farms, Chef Paul Grosz of Cuisine Restaurant, and Dr. Kevin Peterson, co-owner of Castalia, CwC offers classes several times a month. Register for a class for date night, fun with friends, or book a private session for a group.


Led by experienced chefs across Michigan, Fustini’s virtual cooking classes welcome participants to discover new dishes and techniques right from the comforts of their own kitchen.  Each class is 1 ½ – 2 hours and features Fustini’s products in each dish.  Each registrant receives a “pre-pack” which not only includes the Zoom link, recipe, ingredient & equipment list, but also a discount code that can be used to purchase any Fustini’s products prior to class.  Join them for Hors D’oeuvres Galore just in time for the Holidays or Winter French Bistro perfect for a fancy dinner night.
