Kick off a Healthy Summer with the YMCA

When kids are inspired, they can do anything, which is why the YMCA hosts a national event each year to do just that! Healthy Kids Day is a national initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids and families, awaken their imagination, allow them to explore new activities and choose healthier habits.

The FREE event on April 21st  will be an opportunity for kids and families to explore local vendors, take part in educational activities and learn how to keep their minds and bodies active as they gear up for summer vacation.

At Taste the Local Difference, we believe Farmers Markets are the perfect venue to educate children about the food they consume. Encouraging healthier eating habits at an early age is an important aspect of children’s health and well-being. By participating in events that give children face-to-face interaction with our local food producers we are giving children a better understanding of where their food comes from. Farmers Markets do more than introduce children to fresh produce, they provide an environment for kids and families to be surrounded by others making healthier choices too.

With the help of many local farmers and producers, TLD will be hosting a Pop-up Farmers Market in conjunction with the Healthy Kids Day at YMCA! Kids will have the opportunity to interact with the community, get to know fresh produce, and participate in activities that will help them identify vegetables. Each participating vendor will have items priced between $1-5 to give children the opportunity to make their own healthy purchasing choices.

Are your kids already dreaming of Summer? Bring your family in and join the fun, connect with your community, and kick off Summer with Healthy Kids Day at the YMCA!

This event is FREE to the public and will take place on Saturday, April 21st from 11-2 PM at the Grand Traverse Bay YMCA, 3700 Silver Lake Road, Traverse City. See you there!
